The Mechanical Engineer 5 (Staff Engineer) in Lam Research is a technical leader responsible for the architecture, development, integration, and lifecycle management of complex fluidic, structural, and electro-mechanical systems for semiconductor capital equipment. This role owns product-level technical decisions, drives innovation, reliability, and performance improvements, and leads cross-functional execution from concept through production. The Staff Engineer serves as a subject matter expert, influencing technology roadmaps, engineering standards, and product strategy. Success in this role requires strong product ownership, system-level thinking, and the ability to solve complex technical challenges while mentoring and developing engineering talent. Semiconductor equipment experience and expertise in fluidics and electromechanical systems are strongly preferred. Job Responsibilities
Own the technical strategy, architecture, development, and lifecycle management of complex fluidic, structural, and electro-mechanical systems for semiconductor capital equipment. Serve as the technical owner for critical products/subsystems, driving performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, safety, and cost objectives from concept through production and sustaining. Translate product and system requirements into innovative subsystem architectures, detailed designs, technical specifications, and validation plans. Lead the design and integration of fluid delivery systems, precision mechanisms, structural assemblies, and electro-mechanical components across multidisciplinary platforms. Drive technical decisions through engineering analysis, simulation, trade studies, risk assessments, and data-driven problem solving. Define and execute product verification, qualification, and reliability strategies to ensure compliance with customer and business requirements. Lead cross-functional collaboration with Systems, Process, Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Global Product teams to deliver successful product outcomes. Drive resolution of complex technical challenges in development, manufacturing, and field environments using structured root cause analysis methodologies. Influence technology roadmaps, design standards, platform strategies, and engineering best practices across product lines. Mentor and develop engineers while providing technical leadership across multiple programs and global teams. Minimum Qualifications
B.E./B.Tech. or M.E./M.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline. 12+ years of experience in mechanical product development with demonstrated ownership of complex products or subsystems. Semiconductor capital equipment experience strongly preferred. Core Competencies
Deep expertise in fluidics, structural design, and electro-mechanical systems , including architecture, integration, and product lifecycle management. Strong understanding of fluid delivery systems, pneumatics, pumps, valves, regulators, sensors, actuators, and associated safety requirements. Advanced mechanical engineering fundamentals including CAD, GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, DfX, reliability engineering, and technical documentation. Experience with structural, thermal, vibration, and flow analysis and applying results to product design decisions. Proven product ownership mindset with the ability to balance technical, schedule, cost, quality, and customer requirements.
