Role Purpose
In this role, you will use creativity, sound judgment, and flexibility to reduce defects by identifying and eliminating root causes. You will collaborate with suppliers to improve performance and ensure measurement and inspection systems meet customer requirements. Using the scientific method, DMAIC methodology, and advanced statistical tools, you will improve processes and solve complex manufacturing challenges. You will also have the opportunity to positively impact manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yield, cycle time, and safety by evaluating new raw materials, equipment, and process parameters. Responsibilities include documenting SOPs, SOSs, experiment plans, and process changes, with projects that may support any Corning division or Research and Development function.
Key Responsibilities
Support the design and development of new processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide Lead and support solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma. Champion the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations, as well as, use your analytical skills to analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.). Other responsibilities include measuring and communicating performance against established objectives, reviewing and interpreting data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc., and documenting processes and mentoring operators and peers on defined processes
Travel Requirements
Travel is primarily within NC region, but potential to other domestic production facilities. Frequency and duration vary according to project stage and status but is expected to be up to 75%.
Required Education and Skills
Bachelors Degree in chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering (MS preferred) 3-5 years experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding
