The Energy Accounting / Energy Analyst Intern supports the PSCo Transmission Control Center by assisting with the collection, validation, analysis, and reconciliation of energy-related data used for system balancing, settlements, reliability reporting, and transmission accounting activities. The intern works closely with Energy Accounting personnel, Balancing Authority Operations, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate accounting of power flows, interchange transactions, and settlement-quality data used to support reliable grid operations. The role provides exposure to electric utility operations, energy markets, transmission accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements. Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to: • Assist with validating and reconciling hourly and monthly energy accounting data, including generation, load, interchange, and transmission transactions. • Analyze data from the Energy Management System (EMS) and Integrated Energy Management (IEM) systems to identify discrepancies and support reliable energy settlements. • Support investigations of interchange, tagging, metering, and energy checkout issues to improve data accuracy and operational performance. • Develop reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, and data analyses used by Transmission Operations, Energy Accounting, and leadership teams. • Assist with regulatory, reliability, and settlement reporting requirements by gathering, validating, and organizing operational data. • Gain knowledge of Balancing Authority operations, transmission systems, energy markets, and utility accounting practices while supporting real-time and after-the-fact energy analysis activities. This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs. Minimum Requirements: - Current student, Sophomore or higher (as of Fall 2027) - Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business - Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy. Preferred Qualifications: - A desire to learn new energy markets and the operational aspects of how an electric transmission grid operates.
