About this role

We’re seeking a collegial, highly skilled, and forward-thinking attorney to join BNY’s Legal team as a Senior Director, Senior Managing Counsel supporting the Clearance & Collateral Management (“CCM”) business. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of law, regulation, market infrastructure, digital assets, and product innovation. This role is available in New York, New York. The CCM legal team supports a dynamic and rapidly evolving business that sits at the center of major market structure and liquidity initiatives. The team advises on core clearance and collateral products while also supporting new and strategic efforts involving central clearing, digital assets, tokenization, collateral optimization, and next-generation market infrastructure. This role offers the chance to work on highly visible, business-critical projects with significant external client, regulatory, and industry impact. The ideal candidate is a trusted advisor who thrives in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. The successful candidate will be able to balance high-volume business-as-usual work with complex strategic initiatives, engage collaboratively across Legal, Compliance, Credit, Risk, Operations, and the business, and contribute to the development of innovative solutions that shape the future of clearing and collateral management. Fluency with AI, or a strong willingness to build AI proficiency, is important for this role. The team is actively exploring modern legal and business applications of technology, and candidates who are comfortable using AI tools thoughtfully and responsibly to improve efficiency, analysis, and drafting are especially well suited to succeed. In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: Providing legal and regulatory advice to the Clearance & Collateral Management business across a broad and expanding product set Serving as a key legal advisor on strategic transactions, regulatory initiatives, corporate projects, and collaborations with internal and external partners Supporting product development and lifecycle management, including drafting, negotiating, and updating complex documentation Advising on central clearing, tri-party collateral management, custody, segregation, and related market infrastructure matters Supporting innovative initiatives involving digital assets, tokenization, distributed ledger technology, and other emerging technologies Partnering closely with Compliance, Credit, Risk, Operations, Technology, and other legal colleagues to deliver practical, business-oriented advice Drafting and reviewing policies, procedures, client-facing materials, and thought leadership content Monitoring legal, regulatory, and market developments and advising the business on evolving requirements and opportunities Participating in industry working groups and advocacy efforts, including matters involving SIFMA and other relevant forums Helping drive efficient and scalable legal support in a high-volume environment Examples of work may include: Central clearing documentation and regulatory support for multiple central counterparties Legal support for digital asset and tokenization initiatives Advising on market infrastructure projects involving clearing, settlement, custody, and collateral movement Supporting new product launches and enhancements involving AI-enabled workflow changes Assisting with high-priority projects with aggressive timelines and significant business visibility To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: J.D. and admission to practice law in New York [8–12] years of experience at a law firm and/or large financial institution Experience with tri-party arrangements, collateral management, clearance, custody, and related financial market products Familiarity with clearing agreements, account control agreements, security agreements, MSLA, MRA, ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs, and similar industry-standard documentation Strong knowledge of
