The YouTube Core Product Legal Team serves as the primary legal and regulatory partner for YouTube’s foundational product surfaces and platform capabilities. We advise on the core features that define how over two billion people discover, watch, and interact with video content every day—including YouTube Home, Search, Business generation, GenAI, Communities, over-the-top (OTT) and Commerce. As Product Counsel for YouTube Core Product, you will act as a trusted legal advisor to product managers, software engineers, UX designers, and operational leads across YouTube’s core product surfaces. You will guide new feature launches from initial architectural concept through design, testing, and global rollout. In this role, you will address legal issues spanning platform liability, digital accessibility, user privacy, content rights, consumer protection, and dynamic algorithmic transparency across global markets. Provide legal counsel on YouTube Shopping features, including affiliate links, shoppable videos, live-stream shopping, and third-party e-commerce integrations. Counsel YouTube BrandConnect teams on creator agreements and intermediary liability, while establishing operational guardrails for organic content, paid promotions, and native advertising. Partner with Product and UX engineering to design and enforce disclosure tools (e.g., automated overlays) across all video formats to ensure compliance. Direct platform-wide compliance programs for the federal trade commission (FTC) endorsement guides and equivalent international consumer protection standards. Monitor and mitigate risks related to deceptive advertising, synthetic/AI-generated influencer endorsements, and undisclosed affiliate links in commercial creator content.
Minimum qualifications: JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience. Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located. 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm. Experience in e-commerce, shopping or creator marketing/influencer marketing. Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of privacy, consumer protection, antitrust, contract, content moderation/safety, or IP law issues in a technology context.
