NDE Technician Atlanta, Georgia, Alabama/Mississippi Coast JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for conducting, coordinating, and quality control guidance on generation Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) work across fleet generation sites. The technician’s services are provided in both pre-planned and emergent call-out scenarios for the purposes of maintaining generation equipment in a safe, reliable condition. Knowledge of material testing, engineering principles, maintenance and operating technology for fossil, hydro, combined cycle and combustion units and balance of plant systems. Current Mechanical Level 2 certifications in VT, PT, MT, UT, RT. Experience and knowledge of crane inspection, load and lift equipment testing and related areas. Knowledge of ASNT, AWS, and ANSI certification programs and procedures. JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills ) Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Background/Experience Requirements Industrial site experience is required Knowledge of power plant sites and maintenance work is strongly preferred Demonstrated leadership assignments a plus Other Attributes High level of written and verbal communication skills Motivated self-starter Ability to form and maintain customer relationships at multiple levels is required Ability to simultaneously manage multiple activities, e.g., outage support High percentage of independent travel (domestic) is required, including work assignment at system units Ability to obtain unescorted access Understanding of the customary sequencing and economics of organizing and executing large scale utility inspections is strong preference Ability to recognize when issues go beyond their scope of authority and seeks input as needed. Technical Requirements Knowledge of ASME/NDE codes and standards Proficient in the use of NDE methods on industrial equipment required Level II in MT/PT/VT required, Level II or III in UT with EPRI proficiency qualifications preferred MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Position is responsible for leading and overseeing inspections on plant equipment to include, but not limited to boilers, gas/steam turbines, cooling towers, pumps, fans, combined cycle units, SCR and other new generation and/or design support. Position is responsible for developing inspection procedures, certification protocol, providing technical direction, and overall supervision. Experience with inspection principles, equipment, maintenance principles and power plant cycles. Detailed working knowledge of all NDE methods and possess level II NDE certifications in four or more methods. High level of initiative and the ability to effectively plan, organize and execute work.
