About this role
Dive in and do the best work of your career at DigitalOcean. Journey alongside a strong community of top talent who are relentless in their drive to build the simplest scalable cloud. If you have a growth mindset, naturally like to think big and bold, and are energized by the fast-paced environment of a true industry disruptor, you’ll find your place here. We value winning together—while learning, having fun, and making a profound difference for the dreamers and builders in the world.
We are looking for early-career, general-purpose Software Engineers to join the Physical Infrastructure Engineering team at DigitalOcean. Your mission is simple: leverage AI tools & technology to automate away the manual, repetitive work that slows our teams down every day. You'll partner closely with our technical program managers and infrastructure teams, learn how the work happens today, and turn the manual steps into reliable automation so the organization can move faster and scale further. We are growing quickly, and we want you to be part of that journey. You will build internal tools, products and technology to scale an organization for the future.
This role is built for engineers who default to AI-assisted development. You'll use tools like Cursor and Claude as your primary way to build, turning manual, recurring operational work into reliable automation so the organization can deploy capacity faster and keep the fleet healthy. We are looking for builders who reach for AI first, and who pair that speed with strong judgment: knowing what to verify, what to reject or rewrite, and when to raise a flag before something ships. Our ideal candidates bring a positive attitude to work, are self-driven, motivated to add value to our organization and hungry to take on new challenges.
What You'll Do
• Write automation primarily in Golang and Python, reaching for the right tool for the job, with AI tools as your default way to write and iterate on code
• Partner with TPMs and infrastructure teams to understand how the work happens today, find the manual and repetitive steps, and automate them away
• Take a workflow end to end: from spotting the toil, to building the automation, to shipping something the team can rely on
• Work with stakeholders across infrastructure to find manual, repetitive processes and drive them toward automation
• Contribute to tooling that powers hardware and capacity visibility across DigitalOcean's global infrastructure
• Demonstrate your work in front of lovely groups of engineers
• Participate in cross-functional projects that span the broader Hardware Lifecycle Engineering platform
• Make complex automation systems simple for other groups to use and understand
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean
• Above all else: a passion for building quickly, eliminating manual work, scaling intelligently, and collaborating openly
• A default toward AI-assisted development (Cursor, Claude, or similar), and curiosity about getting more out of these tools as they evolve
• Good judgment about your own work: an instinct for what needs checking, and a habit of knowing what you don't know and raising it early
• Some exposure to Python or Go, through coursework, internships, personal projects, or early professional experience (roughly 0 to 2 years)
• Comfort using Linux (we run Ubuntu LTS), or eagerness to get there quickly
• Familiarity with shell scripting and git
• Some exposure to CI/CD concepts is a plus (we use GitHub Actions and Concourse)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfort working in an asynchronous, remote environment
• Openness to constructive feedback
Compensation Range
• $97,600.00 - $122,000.00
