Job Description: Configuration Engineer (Routers & Switches) Job Title: Configuration Engineer Experience: 3–5 Years Location: Sunnyvale (Onsite) Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Configuration Engineer with 3–5 years of experience configuring, deploying, and validating enterprise networking equipment, including routers and switches. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with networking platforms and be responsible for configuring systems according to customer requirements, ensuring quality, and supporting production, integration, and deployment activities.
Key Responsibilities
Configure, provision, and validate routers, switches, and other network devices based on customer specifications. Perform initial software installation, firmware upgrades, and operating system configuration. Configure networking features including: VLANs Static and dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP) Access Control Lists (ACLs) Port Security Validate configurations through functional testing and troubleshooting. Work with engineering and project management teams to ensure customer requirements are accurately implemented. Maintain configuration documentation, build procedures, and technical records. Troubleshoot hardware and software configuration issues during staging and deployment. . Ensure compliance with company quality standards and configuration management processes. Assist in developing standard configuration templates and automation scripts to improve efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3–5 years of hands-on experience configuring enterprise routers and switches. Experience with networking equipment or equivalent (Juniper, Aruba). Strong understanding of: TCP/IP networking Ethernet technologies IPv4/IPv6 VLANs Routing and switching concepts DNS, DHCP, and SNMP Experience using console access, SSH, TFTP/FTP/SCP, and terminal emulation software. Ability to interpret network diagrams and customer configuration requirements. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with network automation using Python, Ansible, or scripting tools. Familiarity with Linux operating systems. Experience with configuration management tools and version control. Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and network hardening. Experience working in manufacturing, systems integration, telecommunications, or data center environments.
