The NBC News Digital Newsgathering unit is looking for an Associate Producer to join our video team. This is a wonderful opportunity to work at the core of NBC News’s newsgathering operation in a highly collaborative environment, producing short-form video content for NBCNews.com and mobile and social platforms.

Collaborate with NBC News producers and editors in New York and across NBC News bureaus on the acquisition, selection, editing, publishing and distribution of live and on-demand video content. Monitor and review incoming feeds, NBC off-air and digital streaming channels to identify compelling video and newsworthy moments. Edit user-generated videos and raw feeds, adding graphics to enhance context and reporting. Write text to be used for headlines and captions as well as on-screen graphics. Tag video content with editorially relevant metadata. Select, edit and publish images to promote video clips. Resurface relevant past interviews and footage from the archives. Help teams identify and address problems quickly when they arise. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings and weekends as news dictate.

One or more years of experience producing and editing video for digital, social and/or mobile platforms. Familiarity with nonlinear editing systems such as Avid and Premiere. Strong journalistic writing skills and editorial judgment. Familiarity with AP Style and SEO best practices. Experience with or familiarity with content management/online publishing systems. Strong knowledge of and interest in current events and a superior eye for spotting compelling video. Experience crafting fair and accurate headlines and informative captions. Basic photo editing skills. Speedy decision-making and quick reactions to newsworthy topics. Strong organizational skills and work ethic. Ability to take direction well and provide self-direction. Ability to work calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments well under extreme deadlines. Desired Characteristics: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication or another discipline emphasizing storytelling and multimedia creation, or equivalent relevant experience. Further background in broadcast news production. Experience with Avid video editing is a plus. Knowledge of NBC News policies, guidelines and practices. Additional
