Mountain Youth Academy is nestled in Mountain City, Tennessee which is conveniently located near Johnson City, TN, Boone, NC, and Abingdon, VA. We are a 120-bed residential treatment facility and assist in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health issues for our young adolescent patients. We are looking for a Residential Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will provide support, encouragement, and structure to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment while helping create a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment. Residential Counselor – Non-Degreed and Degreed High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree with one year of health care experience required. Full-time or PRN positions available Without prior experience earn between $18-22 an hour Degrees increase the base rate. Increased rates for those with prior work experience in the medical, behavioral mental healthcare field, working with children and miliary services. Shift Differentials: $2-5 Frequent opportunity for overtime Increasing Work/Life balance to meet your needs! Work Full Time as few as 3 days per week. Selection of 8, 12, or 16 / hour shifts Available full-time weekend shifts at only 36 hours Job Duties/Responsibilities: Provide compassionate support and supervision to patients/residents throughout their treatment experience. Help maintain a safe, structured, and positive environment. Build trusting and respectful relationships with individuals in our care. Monitor patient behavior and communicate changes or concerns to the appropriate clinical team members. Assist with daily activities, routines, and therapeutic programming. Encourage participation in treatment and reinforce positive behaviors. Maintain accurate and timely documentation. Follow all safety, confidentiality, and behavioral health policies and procedures. Collaborate with nurses, therapists, counselors, and other members of the treatment team. Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating patience, professionalism, and respect. Qualifications
Job Requirements/Special Skills: High School Diploma or GED required Associate’s degree Bachelor’s Degree Preferred one year of health care experience required. Verbal De-escalation skills to assist the residents to regain control of their behaviors. Functions as a community lead The ability to make quick decisions and respond in a crisis. The ability to communicate clearly with a team and work together to solve a crisis. Provides mentoring/shadowing as assigned.
