Job Description
The Senior Systems Engineer will lead the design, development, integration, and validation of complex systems spanning hardware, embedded software, and networking. This role requires strong technical breadth, exceptional problem‑solving skills, and the ability to guide cross‑functional engineering teams through architecture, implementation, and verification. The ideal candidate is highly hands‑on, fluent in Linux development environments, experienced with electronics and embedded interfaces, and comfortable mentoring engineers while driving high standards for code quality and documentation. Core Skills System‑level architecture and integration of hardware and embedded software Embedded software development and low‑level driver implementation Cross‑disciplinary technical leadership and mentoring Linux‑based development environments, tool chains and embedded workflows System verification, validation, and troubleshooting Technical documentation and engineering communication Project planning, estimation, and execution tracking Technical Experience Architecture and integration of board‑level, computer‑based, and mixed hardware/software systems Embedded software development design, implementation and debugging including drivers (SPI, I²C, Serial, DMA, crypto/CRC accelerators, disk interfaces) RTOS integration and embedded filesystem development Linux toolchains and embedded workflows Networking, communications and physical layer technologies including Ethernet, CAN, RS‑485, I²C, and protocols such as IP, TCP/UDP, X/Y/ZMODEM, and encrypted communications Electronic schematic interpretation and evaluation of analog and digital circuits Data analysis using MATLAB/Octave and GIS tools to support engineering decisions Debugging across embedded environments using JTAG/SWD Tools Oscilloscopes, DMMs, TDRs, network analyzers, and related lab equipment JTAG/SWD debugging tools Linux development toolchains MATLAB/Octave GIS tools Experience Demonstrated experience across both hardware and embedded software domains Hands‑on laboratory experience with system bring‑up, testing, and troubleshooting Experience creating and managing Gantt charts, WBS structures, estimates, schedules, and resource plans Participation in and leadership of software, hardware, and mechanical design reviews Proven ability to mentor junior and mid‑level engineers Strong problem‑solving skills with a history of identifying and resolving system‑level issues Experience producing high‑quality technical documentation, engineering reports, and peer‑reviewed technical papers Ownership‑driven mindset with a strong commitment to quality, documentation, and engineering rigor Collaboration with hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, and IT teams Contribution to DevOps concepts, toolchains, and full‑stack system architectures Education Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 15+ years of experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering with 10+ years of experience Additional Requirements Due to the type of work at the facility and certain access restrictions, successful applicants must be a "US Person" (US Citizens, US Nationals, lawful permanent residents, asylees or refugees) Full‑time, exempt position Office and laboratory environment with occasional field or test‑site work Limited travel for testing, vendor engagement, or program support Experience
