About this role

Who we are. Reality Defender builds foundation models for AI-generated media detection, helping enterprises and governments identify deepfakes across audio, video, and imagery in real time. Our patented multi-model approach stays robust against the bleeding edge of generative platforms, and our API-first platform lets teams and developers embed detection directly into their workflows. What began as a detection foundation now powers a growing set of applications: contact center AI detection, vishing fraud, identity verification, claims fraud prevention, hiring integrity, media verification, and defense against disinformation. Backed by world-class investors including DCVC, Y Combinator, Booz Allen, IBM, KPMG, and Accenture, Reality Defender works with leading enterprises, financial institutions, and governments to ensure AI generated content is always identifiable. Youtube: Reality Defender Wins RSA Most Innovative Startup The Communications Manager Role. Deepfakes and AI-generated fraud are now front-page news, and Reality Defender sits at the center of that story. We're looking for a Communications Manager to lead the day-to-day public relations work that keeps us there from pitching journalists, placing coverage, to managing the press relationships that shape how the market understands the deepfake threat - while also supporting the broader communications work that keeps our story consistent across every audience. You'll be the engine behind our media presence: building and running the press outreach calendar, writing pitches and press materials, and working the phones and inboxes to turn company news into earned coverage. You'll also partner with Marketing and our leadership team on executive visibility, internal announcements, and company news, keeping spokespeople briefed and ready and serving as the first line of response when reporters come calling, including when the news isn't something we planned for. This is a hands-on communications role for someone who wants to build a deep bench of media relationships in tech and cybersecurity while getting broad exposure to the full communications function, with room to grow into a more senior role as the team scales. Own day-to-day media relations: pitching stories, fielding reporter inquiries, and building a target list of journalists and outlets covering AI and cybersecurity. Write and distribute press releases, media pitches, briefing documents, bylines, talking points, and other press kit materials for product news, funding milestones, research findings, and company announcements. Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and freelancers, tracking beats and coverage patterns to keep outreach targeted and timely. Secure and manage interviews, briefings, and speaking opportunities, prepping spokespeople with talking points and Q&A materials. Monitor the news cycle and respond quickly to reporter questions, including on short notice during breaking news or fast-moving stories. Track and report on media coverage, placements, and share of voice, flagging results and gaps to the team. Submit for awards and speaking engagements, acting as a thought partner to C-suite in terms positioning the company. Partner with Marketing and Product teams to stay current on company news, product launches, and milestones worth pitching to media. Monitor competitor and industry coverage to spot press opportunities and keep our positioning sharp. Maintain core communications assets: press kit, boilerplate, media contact database, and FAQs. Support issues management by helping draft holding statements and coordinate responses when sensitive media inquiries come in. Assist with internal communications and company-wide announcements as needed. Who you are. 3+ years of experience in public relations, communications, or media relations, ideally in tech, cybersecurity, or another fast-moving industry (agency or in-house experience both welcome).
