What We're Looking For
The Human Factors Engineer, Senior evaluates and validates customer and end-user needs across hardware, software, and emerging technologies, including mobile, machine vision, robotics, automation, analytics, and AI-driven systems. This role will lead and evolve usability testing methods, protocols, and evaluations across the design lifecycle, including human-AI interaction assessments. This role requires strong problem-solving, design thinking, and human-centered advocacy to deliver safe, ethical, transparent, user-friendly, and best-in-class solutions that improve user experience, human well-being, and system performance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Lead and support human factors research, usability testing, and validation activities across the design lifecycle, from customer research and concept development through final evaluation Collaborate with industrial design, UX research, engineering, product management, and other cross-functional partners to understand use cases, plan studies, and translate findings into actionable design recommendations Develop contextual test protocols, select appropriate methodologies, and conduct independent evaluations using advanced human factors, usability, and mixed-methods research approaches Evaluate emerging technologies and AI-driven systems by applying human-centered frameworks that address usability, trust, cognitive load, transparency, safety, fairness, and responsible AI principles Analyze and communicate research findings through clear reports, presentations, metrics, and stakeholder readouts, including statistical analysis and human performance insights where appropriate Contribute to brainstorming, concept refinement, and prototype evaluation to shape intuitive, effective, and user-centered product experiences Manage multiple research projects independently, establish milestones, maintain documentation, and ensure alignment with relevant human factors standards, best practices, and compliance needs Mentor junior human factors and research professionals by sharing best practices, strengthening core skills, and promoting a human-centered design culture Key Skills and Competencies: Experience in human-centered research for human-computer interaction or man-machine interaction related topics Deep understanding of advanced HF physiological tools & methods (EMG/Goniometry/Biometrics). Can use advanced tools independently Strong skills in user research, usability testing, and data visualization Strong communications skills Familiarity with AI/Machine Learning principles, explainability challenges, and how these technologies impact human cognitive load and decision-making desired Familiarity with scripting/programming for data manipulation, research applications and statistical analysis desired (e.g., R, Matlab, Python) is a plus Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters degree (preferred) in HCI, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology or equivalent 5+ years professional experience as a Human Factors Engineer Must be able to work hybrid onsite in Holtville, NY and travel up to 20% Equal Opportunity Employer: Zebra is an equal opportunity employer.
