What We're Looking For
Computer Vision Intern About the Role Are you passionate about bridging the gap between theoretical computer vision and real-world industrial applications? Zebra Technologies is looking for a driven Computer Vision & AI Intern to join our Advanced Data Capture team for a 3-month part-time internship. In this role, you will work closely with our expert team of Algorithm Researchers and Software Engineers to develop, optimize, and test next-generation algorithms for 2D barcode detection and decoding. You will gain hands-on experience navigating the complexities of industrial image processing—from classical computer vision techniques to cutting-edge deep learning models—all while writing robust implementation code in Python and C/C++.
Key Responsibilities
Algorithm Development: Assist in researching, designing, and testing algorithms for robust barcode detection and decoding in challenging conditions (e.g., blur, low illumination, complex backgrounds). Hybrid Approaches: Work on both Classical Computer Vision (feature extraction, grid building, signal analysis) and Deep Learning-based methods for image classification and localization. Pipeline Optimization: Contribute to the end-to-end 2D barcode decoding pipeline, writing efficient and maintainable implementation code in Python and C/C++ . Data Experimentation: Help evaluate model performance and potentially assist with synthetic data generation pipelines to improve algorithm robustness against realistic degradations (like ink spread or curvature). Collaboration: Participate in technical reviews and collaborate directly with senior algorithm researchers and software engineers.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a highly related field. Strong theoretical understanding of image processing and Computer Vision fundamentals. Hands-on proficiency in Python and C/C++ . Familiarity with at least one major deep learning framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow). Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to dedicate 20 hours per week for the 3-month duration.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior academic or project experience related to Direct Part Marking (DPM) or barcode scanning technologies. Understanding of optimization techniques for deploying CV algorithms in C/C++. A strong portfolio or GitHub repository showcasing relevant computer vision projects.
