We’re seeking an experienced Labour and Employee Relations Specialist to join our growing People Team in our Edmonton, Alberta office. The Labour and Employee Relations Specialist works closely with field supervisors and line managers on performance management, employee relations issues and investigations while also providing support with pre-job, grievance and collective bargaining activities for our CLAC entity. The successful candidate will have experience working within a CLAC environment and a solid understanding of collective bargaining agreements and applicable employment legislation. What You’ll Do: Establish solid working relationships with field supervisors and managers. Act as the primary advisor to operational leaders on labour relations issues, disciplinary matters, workforce concerns, and policy interpretation. Develop and maintain productive working relationships with field leaders, construction managers, CLAC representatives and other labour stakeholders. Investigate and resolve complex and sensitive employee relations issues. Interpret and apply collective agreements, pre-job conference reports, site documentation, client requirements, and project-specific guidelines. Resolve grievances, employee complaints and other workplace conflicts. Gather and analyze relevant data including current market rates and labour costing information. Support employee-related administrative activities, including resolving pay issues, conducting rate audits, and preparing employee correspondence such as notices and disciplinary action. Assist with workforce planning and labour strategy initiatives for project and operational requirements. Qualifications: Must have previous experience working in a CLAC unionized environment. Four years’ progressive experience in Human Resources, including Labour Relations. Experience providing employee relations support in an industrial construction environment is preferred. University degree or diploma is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Solid understanding of collective bargaining processes, grievance management, and labour relations best practices. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relations at all levels of the organization including adapting messaging to different audiences. Comfortable in ambiguous, changing situations - able to learn quickly and exercise sound judgment in situations where data may be elusive. Strong sense of urgency with the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to prioritize
