What You Will Do
The Surface Radars & Sensors Center is seeking talented STEM students with an interest in systems engineering. Our Portsmouth, RI team supports programs across the naval undersea and surface domains, including sensor systems, mine countermeasures, submarines, torpedoes, combat systems, and ship architecture/integration. Our engineers perform underwater acoustics analysis and tracking, develop and manage system requirements, integrate hardware and software, create test plans and procedures, debug and evaluate system functions and interfaces, and verify requirements in support of final customer sell-off. We build systems, exercise them in the lab and in the field, measure and analyze performance, and ensure our products work correctly the first time and every time. Each day brings new challenges. You’ll collaborate across disciplines and teams to implement solutions. In this role, you’ll gain exposure to every aspect of the system and play a direct part in making all components work together while supporting engineering teams through integration and test activities. This position is an onsite role in Portsmouth, RI. Support systems engineering activities across the design V‑model, including requirements definition, architecture development, integration, verification, and validation. Conduct data analysis, such as acoustics, radar and sonar data, using tools such as MATLAB Perform requirements analysis, development and management Support in developing and maintaining system requirements, ensuring traceability through design, implementation, and test phases. Support planning and execution of Integration, Verification, or Test activities Prepare and present results in reports and briefings to internal or external stakeholders What You Will Learn The candidate will learn real-world engineering skills by being part of a team supporting Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SE&TC) activities for naval systems.
Qualifications
You Must Have This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) Technology or Engineering, degree program and will be at minimum, entering their sophomore year by the start of summer 2026 Experience with tools, such as MATLAB or Python, for data analysis and automation Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session. Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Qualifications
