About this role
Amazon South Africa is building its Retail Operations and Initiatives function. This team owns the end-to-end product pipeline: the path from a product being listed, to being buyable, priced, discoverable, and delivered. In this role, you will identify and resolve the process defects and system gaps that prevent products from reaching customers, working across vendor management, supply chain, in-stock, and technology teams to build scalable solutions. You will use data to diagnose operational friction, define governance mechanisms that persist beyond individual effort, and drive cross-functional accountability for supply chain and vendor experience outcomes. The product management team covers Supply Chain and Vendor Experience, Selection and Catalog health, Pricing, Delivery, and value-add products Key job responsibilities Lead cross-functional initiatives across vendor experience, supply chain, and selection health, partnering with Retail Business Services, Vendor Managers, In-Stock, and technology teams Diagnose root causes of operational defects through data analysis and process mapping; develop and scale solutions that address systemic gaps rather than individual symptoms Define key performance metrics and build governance mechanisms (intake processes, triage cadences, escalation paths) for ongoing monitoring and continuous improvement Build standard operating procedures and drive adoption across multiple business teams, converting manual processes into repeatable, automated workflows Prepare and lead business reviews that communicate progress, root cause findings, and prioritized recommendations to senior leadership A day in the life You start your day reviewing operational metrics to identify where friction is building across the product pipeline, then prioritise what to fix first. You might facilitate a cross-functional working session to map a root cause, then translate the outcome into a requirements brief for a technology team. You spend time in the data regularly; building queries, validating assumptions, and turning operational noise into a clear signal. Throughout the week, you prepare business reviews that translate complexity into recommendations for senior leadership. No two weeks look the same; the problems shift across supply chain, vendor experience, selection, and delivery depending on where the biggest customer impact sits.
About the team
We are a small, high-ownership team building the operational backbone of Amazon's South Africa retail store. The function is new; the mechanisms, frameworks, and governance that mature stores take for granted are ours to design from scratch. You will work alongside product managers covering buyability, vendor experience, supply chain economics, catalog quality, and pricing. The team spans operations, technical, business, and finance disciplines. Joining means shaping how an emerging store operates at a foundational level, not inheriting a playbook
