About this role
As a member of the Global Communications and Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; create specific communications materials and campaigns; and protect Google's reputation. You will understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs and more. As a motivated and organized professional who takes initiative, you will join the Corporate Communications team and lead U.S. State and Local communications. You'll be responsible for creating strategic plans, content and campaigns based on business and policy priorities and narratives to amplify Google’s public image and build brand love across the U.S. and at the state and local level. You will be a trusted partner to leaders across the company, building consensus, and driving strategic alignment for cross-functional communications efforts across the U.S. You will understand policy and community issues and explain them clearly, concisely, and persuasively, both in person and in writing. You’ll also manage a network of local PR agencies. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Develop and execute multi-state communication plans and scalable campaigns highlighting key priorities like AI, education, and regional investments. Partner with Policy, Marketing, Cloud, and leadership to align messaging, manage agency partners, and guide local spokespeople. Cultivate relationships with regional journalists and creators to translate complex technology into simple, compelling local stories and press opportunities. Produce engaging press releases, blog posts, FAQs, statements, and creative social assets tailored to audiences. Drive proactive PR opportunities, support local crisis communications, and oversee campaign measurement and reporting.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 4 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or internal and executive communications with technology products or services. Ability to travel as needed. Preferred qualifications: Experience in managing policy and crisis communications. Experience in providing communications guidance to executives and devising proactive communications strategies. Understanding of, and interest in the technology, political and regional media space. Skilled in social media, digital trends and creator engagement. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated commitment and passion for social impact.
