About this role
McKesson is an impact-driven, Fortune 10 company that touches virtually every aspect of healthcare. We are known for delivering insights, products, and services that make quality care more accessible and affordable. Here, we focus on the health, happiness, and well-being of you and those we serve – we care. What you do at McKesson matters. We foster a culture where you can grow, make an impact, and are empowered to bring new ideas. Together, we thrive as we shape the future of health for patients, our communities, and our people. If you want to be part of tomorrow’s health today, we want to hear from you. The Principal Architect, Employee Enablement defines and governs the architecture vision, strategy, and standards for the technology portfolio that enables how McKesson employees get work done, find help, and access services. The role serves as the prime architecture resource supporting service areas across General Counsel, Global Impact, HR, ServiceNow, Digital Workplace, Moveworks, Microsoft 365 and Copilot, enterprise knowledge, identity, and employee-facing AI capabilities. The role translates business strategy into a unified employee experience, moving the organization from a collection of platforms and intake paths to an integrated, AI-enabled ecosystem that simplifies work, improves service delivery, and increases self-service. It helps set projects up for success by engaging early, shaping scope and architecture decisions, clarifying risks and dependencies, and ensuring both small business-critical efforts and transformational programs have the right design, governance, and delivery path. It guides the Employee Enablement team through enterprise architecture reviews, responsible AI use boards, security and privacy reviews, and investment trade-off decisions. The role sets architecture principles, resolves precedent-setting technical challenges, advises senior leaders on risk and options, mentors architects and engineering teams, and ensures employee-facing solutions are practical, scalable, secure, and aligned to how work should get done.
Key Responsibilities
Set the employee enablement architecture strategy. Define the long-term vision, principles, and target-state roadmap for the full employee enablement portfolio, including General Counsel, Global Impact, People and Pay, ServiceNow, Digital Workplace, Moveworks, Microsoft 365, and AI-enabled service channels. Set projects and programs up for success. Engage early across intake, discovery, design, and planning to shape scope, clarify architectural runway, identify dependencies, reduce delivery risk, and ensure both small business-critical efforts and enterprise transformation programs are positioned to deliver meaningful outcomes. Architect simplified employee experiences. Design how ServiceNow, Digital Workplace, Moveworks, Microsoft 365, Copilot, Workday, and related employee service technologies work together to create intuitive journeys, reduce friction, and improve productivity. Lead enterprise architecture review readiness. Guide the Employee Enablement team through enterprise architecture reviews, solution option assessments, design approvals, exception handling, and alignment with enterprise technology standards. Govern platform boundaries and portfolio decisions. Clarify what each platform owns across legal, impact, HR, pay, service delivery, collaboration, and AI-enabled support; eliminate duplication; and drive rationalization across overlapping capabilities and vendors. Embed responsible AI and security by design. Partner with Responsible AI use boards, Security, Privacy, Legal, Compliance, and platform teams to ensure AI-enabled experiences follow approved use cases, data access controls, grounding expectations, human oversight, sensitivity labeling, DLP, and regulatory requirements. Influence senior leadership. Advise executives on technology risks, trade-offs, vendor strategy, and investment decisions. Mentor and build the architecture community.
