About the role

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is a critical member of Skydio's expanding EHS organization. You will support Headquarters, R&D, Field Operations, and deployment activities while helping build the EHS programs, systems, and operating structure these functions need as they scale. Unlike traditional site-based safety roles, this position operates across office and laboratory spaces, engineering and R&D areas, field deployment locations, customer sites, public-safety facilities, rooftops, and other non-traditional work environments. You'll work closely with EHS Leadership, Field Operations, Deployment Engineering, R&D, Facilities, Training, and business leaders to identify hazards, implement controls, support regulatory compliance, investigate incidents, deliver training, and establish scalable EHS processes. A major part of this role is building EHS infrastructure for business areas that have not historically had dedicated EHS support. Location: This is an office based position at our HQ in San Mateo, CA. Travel is required based on operational need and may include customer deployment locations, public-safety facilities, rooftop installations, remote field locations, other Skydio sites, and incident-investigation, training, and audit locations. How you'll make an impact: • Support development and implementation of EHS programs across Headquarters, R&D, Field Operations, and deployment activities. • Partner with EHS Leadership to build new divisional safety programs, procedures, training, inspection systems, risk assessments, and operational controls. • Conduct field and site safety assessments for deployments, installations, customer locations, and remote operations. • Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task risk assessments, and site-specific risk assessments, and recommend engineering, administrative, PPE, and procedural controls. • Support safe work practices for rooftop work, work at height, ladder use, electrical activities, batteries, environmental exposure, and public/customer-site operations, including roof access, roof hatches, skylights, roof edges, load limitations, exclusion zones, and competency requirements for elevated work. • Establish weather-related work restrictions for wind, rain, lightning, ice, extreme heat, and other field conditions. • Investigate injuries, incidents, near misses, property damage, and significant hazards; identify root causes, establish corrective actions, assign owners, and track actions through closure. • Develop and deliver EHS training to employees, managers, field teams, engineers, and other affected personnel. • Support contractor and vendor safety programs, including pre-task risk assessment and contractor qualification. • Maintain EHS documentation, training records, inspection records, incident records, and corrective-action tracking, and support emergency preparedness and response planning. • Support EHS audits, inspections, regulatory readiness, PPE management, and continuous-improvement
