About this role

Overview

We are looking for a Principal Applied Sciences Manager for a team of applied scientists and engineers in audio and video processing. This team is part of the IC3-AI team, which creates speech enhancement models used in Teams and Windows, as well as the new ML Video Codec used in Teams. Our models are mission critical to Microsoft and used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide. We open source many of our datasets, models, and tools developed, and actively publish.   This position is based at the Redmond campus with 3 days per week work in the office and 2 days per week work from home. Responsibilities

Apply AI to video processing and speech enhancement components to improve Teams real-time collaboration quality. Understand and be able to leverage core concepts of audio and video processing. Design, develop, and own components, tools, platforms, and systems for real-time media communication and collaboration. Drive independent investigations resulting in shipping product code, patents, and publications. Manage a team of applied scientists and developers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR equivalent experience. 3+ years of people management experience.   Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR equivalent experience. 7+ years of people management experience. 3+ years experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker. 7+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings). 5+ years experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team. 7+ years experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping. Minimum of 10 years in machine learning research and development. Track record of leading successful AI projects. System development skills, with a long-range system view that leverages development ranging from rapid research prototypes to carefully architected complex systems.
